Nutrition
Sensible eating and a sound emotional state are crucial and that is where good nutrition comes in. Nutrition is the synergy of fats, proteins, a healthy digestive system and exercise. Nutritionist, Loreen McKellar recommends adopting a structured approach to your nutritional needs. It does not mean saying goodbye to the foods we love. In fact, your favourite foods may be able to help improve your health!
Fish with Fats
Research has shown that good fats such as Omega 3, 6 and 9, increase lean body mass while decreasing body fat helping you stay slim.
They digest slowly in the stomach and so reducing cravings. Fatty fish are great sources: sardines contain a whopping 22% per 100 grams as well as mackerel and salmon. Supplementing with a good quality plant oil blend will also stabilise your appetite. Remove bad fats such as margarine and hydrogenated oils from your diet and replace them with virgin olive oil instead.
Pass the proteins
A balance of good oils and good proteins is necessary for overall good health. They provide the building blocks of a healthy body in an easily assimilated form. Rice and peas are a powerful protein combination. For additional protein increase your intake of grains, pulses, nuts and seeds.
Fibre Foods and Exercise
Fibre ensures the efficient transit of food through the colon. Constipation allows fermenting food to sit in colon producing bacteria that enters the bloodstream causing inflammation and illness. A gentle cleansing of this important organ 2-4 times a year is recommended - I'm talking washout!
Experiment with wheat-free wraps; and try recipes that include spinach leaves as an innovative, healthy replacement for bread.
Regular, moderate exercise will also help to stimulate internal organs, relieve stress and remove unwanted toxins. Loreen recommends just 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times a week will be enough for most people. But if you have been inactive for some time you must consult your GP before embarking upon any physical activity
The Holistic way
A balanced nutritional program based on your particular needs and a few hypnotherapy sessions, can help you to take control back from your subconscious and change your attitude towards food and exercise. Once you have learned to adequately manage these areas of your life you will not only lose weight but more importantly, the weight you lose will stay off!
