Weight Management

So you've thrown out (or, admit it, eaten) the last of the Christmas turkey and resolved this year, nay this week, you're going to lose that weight.
Most of us believe the battle with bulge is waged in the kitchen, the restaurant, or at Aunties Sunday dinner table. In fact, the real struggle to lose weight begins in the mind..

For years we've read articles, heard reports and been barraged with information on what to eat, how much (or how little), even when and where to eat it.
Over the years of helping patients with weight loss I have found that though they might be well versed in the technical aspects of the latest; Low Carb, Liquid only, Vegetable diet. What they don't know is how to deal with the emotional side of weight control!

The fact is, there are many contributing factors to weight gain;
People generally become overweight due to overeating or by eating the wrong types of foods, but why do we do this?

  • To satisfy an emotional need;
    • Compensating for an unpleasant experience
    • Compensating for something we feel is missing in our lives e.g. love
  • Because we don't know any better we have an unhealthy unbalanced diet
  • To deal with boredom

As you can see the majority of these reasons are due to an unhealthy emotional state of mind leading to a nutritional imbalance in the body.

The Problem with Dieting
Dieting alone is not enough to control weight gain. Dieters often view their new venture as a short-term program; and look forward to achieving their target weight so they can return to eating 'normally'. Once most people have reached their ideal weight, they reward themselves by bingeing on the restricted foods they have been craving, which causes them to re-gain the weight that they worked so hard to lose. This can result in feelings of guilt, shame, and depression. Eventually they begin to diet again and before long they have found themselves in a cycle of yo-yo dieting that never seems to end.

Want to lose weight but can never keep to that diet? Well, you'll definitely need to improve your nutrition as well as your state of mind. Clinical Hypnotherapist, Richard Blissett says that "With hypnotherapy we can actually tap into the processes that help us overcome issues such as Phobias, Stress/Panic attacks, Sleep issues, Weight management and many more." Hypnotherapy, can help you stop that craving for that Green & Blacks chocolate or Hargen-daaz ice cream but most importantly it will help you make that lifestyle change and adopt healthier eating habits which will not only help you loose weight but ensure you keep it off!;

So how can Hypnosis and Nutrition help win the battle of weight management?
The unconscious mind plays such a vital and constant role in our day to day lives yet 90% of us ignore it completely. We never think about the regulation of our heart rate, digestion, blood pressure or our breathing, it just happens, unconsciously! The use of hypnotherapy as a means of tapping into the sub-conscious mind is a very safe and natural way to target the problems that cause self-destructive behaviour.
